What is osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a holistic approach to health, and osteopaths aim to address the root causes of pain through detailed examination of the entire body and consideration of other relevant factors such as lifestyle, medical history and injuries.
Osteopaths draw from a range of hands-on techniques, including soft tissue massage, myofascial release, joint articulation and manipulation, muscle stretching and gentle release technique such as craniosacral therapy to help restore balance between the body’s systems. They will also often prescribe therapeutic exercise and suggest lifestyle changes to help create lasting change.
Osteopaths are trained to recognise conditions that may require referral for medical assessment and treatment and liaise with other healthcare practitioners to deliver appropriate and effective patient management.
Osteopathy may help with a variety of conditions, including:
back pain
headaches, neck and shoulder tension
joint and muscle strain
pain during and after pregnancy
sports injuries
after surgery pain and rehabilitation
sciatica
arthritic pain
frozen shoulder and tennis elbow
repetitive strain injuries
